Coincidence is God's Way of Remaining Anonymous...

Ten million daily viewers loved her as Liz Chandler on the soap opera Days of Our Lives. Yet while the cameras rolled and the fictional plotline for Days unfolded each day, Loring was quietly wrestling with her own real-life dramas - the diagnosis of her young son's diabetes, the unraveling of her marriage, and a nagging inner voice from childhood that told her something was wrong. Coincidence Is God's Way of Remaining Anonymous is Loring's spiritual exploration of how coincidence helped her make sense of life's challenges and uncertainties. Coincidence helped her raise on million dollars for diabetes research; it arrived in the form of mysterious letters during her separation and eventual divorce from actor-writer Alan Thicke; and it helped her discover and then heal from the trauma of long-forgotten childhood sexual abuse. It also brought her a chance encounter with the man she is married to today. With eloquence and humor, Loring takes readers on a quest for a deeper understanding of life's journey and the role coincidence plays in all of our lives, revealing that even the most difficult circumstances can be beneficial. Her experiences may be just the evidence readers need to begin watching more closely what they are attracting and what they are running from in their own lives. While coincidences may appear to come out of the blue, Loring suggests that we can all play a starring role in their appearance. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Gloria Loring. The Television Scripts of Philip Rapp

Philip Rapp will remain immortal through his catty creation, The Bickersons, an insanely funny radio vignette that later emerged on TV and stage, and which influenced a generation of Honeymooners-loving viewers. But he was a far more prolific author than that. In late 1958, he pitched an idea for a series called Deputy Seraph, starring the Marx Brothers, which would wind up being their penultimate appearance on film together. Only a few minutes of their scene was shot, however, along with the photos inside this book, and nothing else. The project was scrapped too quickly once Chico failed to pass the medical physical exam required for insuring its stars during the series. Those few minutes have since wound up on DVD, but this is the first public viewing of their entire divine adventure. Around the same time, Joan Davis filmed her adventurecomedy pilot of Joan of Arkansas, about a dental assistant who is press-ganged into government service. But the series failed to sell, and this also ended up being the last appearance of that star on film. Squeegee was a pilot written for comedian Ben Blue around 1954 and filmed in April 1955, about the same time that Rapp was trying to sell the residual rights to the 78 Topper episodes he owned (having directed or produced a number of them). It was his Topper hit that helped Rapp get the funding he needed for several of these later pilots, which failed to catch on. Now, read on . !

Maria´s wish burns as brightly as a star. Maria longs to be an astronomer and imagines all the strange worlds she can travel to by looking though her papa´s telescope. One night Maria gets her chance to look through the telescope. For the first time, she sees the night sky stretching endlessly above her, and her dream of exploring constellations seems close enough to touch. In this story, inspired by the life of Maria Mitchell, America´s first woman astronomer, 'viewers will find the cobalt-blue nights, lit with constellations that make imaginary (and actual) pictures in the sky, every bit as attractive as Maria does.'

Everything you need to know to put your drawings and paintings into perspective! If the concept of perspective makes you think of confusing angles, fancy measuring gadgets and complicated theories, get ready for a very pleasant surprise. In this comprehensive guide, Phil Metzger demystifies perspective, presenting it simply as a matter of mimicking the way we see--like the way a distant mountain appears blue, or a road seems to narrow in the distance. The Art of Perspective offers simple but powerful techniques for achieving a convincing illusion of depth and distance, whether it's a few inches in a still life or miles in a landscape. • Start simple, with atmospheric perspective and intuitive techniques, and gradually progress to linear perspective and more complex challenges such as stairways, curves and reflections. • Use the engaging, step-by-step demonstrations and exercises to try out each essential concept for yourself, making lessons clearer and more memorable. • Learn theories that apply to all mediums, with specific advice for achieving effects using acrylic, oil, watercolor and pencil. • Get the inside scoop on professional tricks and shortcuts that make perspective easier than ever! Forget everything you think you know (or don't know) about perspective. This book builds an easy-to-follow, ground-up understanding of how to turn a flat painting or drawing surface into a living, breathing, dimensional scene that lures viewers in. No matter how you look at it, it's the ultimate guide to perspective for artists of every medium and skill level.

The Cinema of Globalization

Tom Zaniello's fascinating new guide to films about globalization-its origins, its relationship with colonialism, neocolonialism, the growth of migratory labor, and movements to counter or protest its adverse effects-offers readers and viewers the opportunity to both discover new films and see well-known works in a new way. From Afro@Digital to Zoolander, Zaniello discusses 201 films, including features such as The Constant Gardener, Dirty Pretty Things, and Syriana; documentaries and other nonfiction films such as Blue Vinyl, Darwin's Nightmare, and Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price; online films; and television productions. Zaniello casts a wide net to provide cinematic representations of globalization from all angles: -films about global labor and labor unions affected by globalization; -films about global capital and multinational corporations; -films about the transnational organizations (WB, IMF, WTO) most closely identified with globalization and global capital; -films about labor history and the daily life of working-class people as they relate to the development of globalization; -films about the environment directly related to changes in labor or capital; and -films about changes in both the workplace and the corporate office in the era of multinational corporations. Each entry in The Cinema of Globalization offers a summary of the main issues in the film and their relationship to globalization, sometimes a reference to the film's place in a director's work or tradition of cinema, and an often-opinionated assessment of the film's strengths and weaknesses. Like the best film guides, this book is an addictive reading experience full of ideas for future viewing. At the same time, it serves as an inviting and accessible introduction to a difficult topic-the central themes and aspects of globalization.
