The Best Game Ever: Colts vs. Giants, 1958, and...

On December 28, 1958, the New York Giants and Baltimore Colts met under the lights of Yankee Stadium for that season's NFL Championship game. Football, growing in popularity amid America's post-war economic boom, was still greatly over-shadowed by the country's favored pastime - baseball - but the 1958 championship proved to be the turning point for pro football. On the field and roaming the sidelines were 17 future Hall of Famers, including Colts stars Johnny Unitas, Raymond Berry, and Gino Marchetti, and Giants greats Frank Gifford, Sam Huff, and assistant coaches Vince Lombardi and Tom Landry. Played on a freezing Sunday evening in front of 64,000 fans and an estimated 45 million television viewers around the country - at that time the largest crowd to have ever watched a football game - the championship would become the first sudden-death contest in NFL history. With two minutes left in regulation, Baltimore had possession deep in its own territory, and the ball in the hands of the still unproven quarterback Johnny Unitas. The Best Game Ever is a brilliant portrait of how a single game changed the history of American sports. Published to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the championship, it is destined to be a sports classic. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Phil Gigante. Mount Shasta: Home of the Ancients , Hörbuch, D...

We were impressed with Thor’s frequent submissions to the newsletter of the Hollow Earth Research Association, 'The Hollow Hassle.' His knowledge of the Hollow Earth, ufology, occultism, and folklore is vast. He is continually working on new projects, and we are proud that he has selected us to publish this masterpiece. His other Hollow Earth book, 'A Guide to Inner Earth,' is absolutely essential for anyone exploring the subject. In that exhaustive study, he has researched every known book on the Hollow Earth, listing them for the reader. Now Thor has done the same thing for students of Mount Shasta lore with this book, 'Mount Shasta: Home of the Ancients.' Not only does he explore the many legends, adventures, and mysteries of the mountain, but he also shares invaluable geological, scientific, and historical data for the avid researcher or buff. In addition to Mount Shasta, the reader will also encounter the subjects of Atlantis, Lemuria, Mu, Vril power, crystals and their uses, fairies, elves, dwarves, giants, Bigfoot and Yeti, ETs, pyramids, and much more. Viewers of the NBC series 'V' will find chapter 7 particularly relevant, and perhaps a bit frightening. Among the many strange lifeforms seen on Mount Shasta are reptilian creatures not unlike those who have abducted various high-profile UFO witnesses (Travis Walton, Betty and Barney Hill, etc.). Those who previously considered the concept of reptilian aliens as pure fiction may now begin to consider the line between fiction and reality blurred. Thor’s readers will be flabbergasted to learn that the city of Los Angeles is actually laid out in the outline of a giant lizard; gold-lined tunnels and chambers supposedly exist beneath the modern skyscrapers on the surface.  1. Banet-Weiser (2004) marked the debut of Clarissa Explains it All in 1991 as a crucial turning point for recognition of girls as 'important empowered subjects in the social world.' The current study of tweencoms focuses on the different ways character tropes are portrayed in media targeted to 8-12 year olds, particularly female characters, over the last 25 years. The focus is limited to the cable giants Disney Channel and Nickelodeon because of their popularity and high concentration of original programming targeted to tweens that airs nearly round-the-clock. This book employs a thematic analysis approach, similar to the one adopted by Riggs (2011) in his identification of the ways in which particular groups of characters are represented and the implications such representations might have for viewers. It incorporates cultivation theory (Gerbner 1998), which is based on media consumption's influence on distorted perceptions of reality, and social cognitive theory (Bandura 1986), which explains the relationship between vicarious exposure to specific behaviors and imitation of those behaviors. This book provides extensive examples and alternative interpretations of the shows' tropes and themes, particularly for those who are unfamiliar with the genre. Past research has shown that media and popular culture portrayals are influential for young viewers and yet live-action, cable comedies targeted to adolescents have gone relatively unnoticed. Much of the previous research has focused on very young girls and princess culture. The book is broken up into two sections. The first section explores common tweencom tropes. Subsequent chapters focusing on different themes that are prevalent throughout the series. The concluding chapter includes a discussion of the big picture of how the tropes and themes give insight into the female characters portrayed in the popular tweencom programming. The final chapter will also include advice to parents and educators.
