THX 1138 - Director's Cut

zzgl. 1,49 € Versand

George Lucas's fascinating, almost art-house, film just took a quantum leap into the digital future. Never has the world of THX 1138 looked as bright, clear, and antiseptic as it does on this remastered version. It is equally impressive how far Lucas and the camera crew push the widescreen 2.35 aspect ratio, particularly on a film that emphasizes minimalism. For those that fault the film as being soundless, prepare yourself for a shock. The new THX enhanced THX 1138 sports a newly remastered DTS audio track that enhances every wonderfully subtle, ambient sound of Lalo Schifrin's soundscape. Complaints are likely to be aimed at the restoration. As many assumed, the newly restored (and retitled) THX 1138: The George Lucas Director's Cut underwent a few CGI alterations. In one aspect, the computer graphics are stunning, they're not excessive, and they don't take anything away from the film's storyline. In some aspects the CGI scenes bridge some empty gaps. However, the modern effects do look a little out of place in comparison with the rest of the film. Though a futuristic sci-fi film, THX 1138 is still very '70s in its look and feel. When the newly added scenes appear, it is pretty obvious what has been added. Yes, the purists will cry Blasphemy! but in all honesty those new to the film may not notice the differences, and most viewers will probably not care.

Serenity - Universal 100th Anniversary Steelboo...

Can't stop the signal... Beloved television cult director Joss Whedon (Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Angel) makes a spectacular first foray onto the big screen with Serenity, the cinematic adaptation of his wildly popular but short-lived sci-fi series, Firefly. A mix of space western, comedy, and drama, Serenity follows Captain Malcolm Mal Reynolds (Nathan Fillion) and his ragtag crew as they trade their way around the edges of civilized society. Of particular interest are two passengers they take on, Simon and River Tam (Sean Maher and Summer Glau), a brother and his telepathic sister on the run from the corrupt governing Alliance. As notorious former members of the anti-Alliance opposition, Mal and his crew make it difficult for Simon and River to stay hidden. Everything goes completely awry when a government assassin is sent to retrieve River. As Mal is forced to choose between his close-knit crew and the brother and sister newcomers, it becomes apparent that River harbours both a dangerous secret and astounding fighting powers, and Mal decides that discovering the truth about what she knows might just be worth his time. Many of the film's action sequences revolve around Summer Glau's martial arts skills in her portrayal of River. Glau prepared for her role with Hong Kong stuntwoman Ming Lu, as well as stunt coordinators Chad Stahelski and Hiro Koda, and as a result performed nearly all the stunt work herself. In addition to the stellar stunts, realistic graphics, and an often haunting score, the film's actors display a rare chemistry that brings viewers both into their lives and into a possible version of humanity's future.

In The Functional Art, instructor Alberto Cairo explains how information graphics and visualizations are cognitive tools that extend our perception and how we can use them to see beyond lists of numbers, variables, and phenomena to identify patterns and trends that would be invisible otherwise. The book also includes a DVD-ROM containing 90+ minutes of video tutorials that expand on the concepts explained in the book as well as exercises that viewers can use to put their newly found skills to the test. Product Description Unlike any time before in our lives, we have access to vast amounts of free information. With the right tools, we can start to make sense of all this data to see patterns and trends that would otherwise be invisible to us. By transforming numbers into graphical shapes, we allow readers to understand the stories those numbers hide. In this practical introduction to understanding and using information graphics, you'll learn how to use data visualizations as tools to see beyond lists of numbers and variables and achieve new insights into the complex world around us. Regardless of the kind of data you're working with-business, science, politics, sports, or even your own personal finances-this book will show you how to use statistical charts, maps, and explanation diagrams to spot the stories in the data and learn new things from it. You'll also get to peek into the creative process of some of the world's most talented designers and visual journalists, including Condé Nast Traveler's John Grimwade, National Geographic Magazine's Fernando Baptista, The New York Times' Steve Duenes, The Washington Post's Hannah Fairfield, Hans Rosling of the Gapminder Foundation, Stanford's Geoff McGhee, and European superstars Moritz Stefaner, Jan Willem Tulp, Stefanie Posavec, and Gregor Aisch. The book also includes a DVD-ROM containing over 90 minutes of video lessons that expand on core concepts explained within the book and includes even more inspirational information graphics from the world's leading designers. The first book to offer a broad, hands-on introduction to information graphics and visualization, The Functional Art reveals: . Why data visualization should be thought of as "functional art" rather than fine art . How to use color, type, and other graphic tools to make your information graphics more effective, not just better looking . The science of how our brains perceive and remember information . Best practices for creating interactive information graphics . A comprehensive look at the creative process behind successful information graphics . An extensive gallery of inspirational work from the world's top designers and visual artists On the DVD-ROM: In this introductory video course on information graphics, Alberto Cairo goes into greater detail with even more visual examples of how to create effective information graphics that function as practical tools for aiding perception. You'll learn how to: incorporate basic design principles in your visualizations, create simple interfaces for interactive graphics, and choose the appropriate type of graphic forms for your data. Cairo also deconstructs successful information graphics from The New York Times and National Geographic magazine with sketches and images not shown in the book. Introduction - What Infographics and Visualizations Are PART 1 - Foundations Chapter 1 - Why Visualization - From Data to Wisdom Chapter 2 - Form and Function - Visualization as a Technology Chapter 3 - The Beauty Paradox - Art and Communication Efficacy Chapter 4 - Exposition, Exploration, And the Complexity Challenge PART 2 - History Chapter 5 - Here Be Dragons - On the Origins of Maps Chapter 6 - Lights of Reason - the Dawn of Scientific Illustration Chapter 7 - A Scottish Engineer And a Century of Revolutions - the History of Charts PART 3 - Cognition Chapter 8 - The Eye and the Visual Brain Chapter 9 - Non-sensed Perception Chapter 10 - Images in the Brain PART 4 - Practice Chapter 11 - The Creation Process in Infographics and Visualization Chapter 12 - Interactive Graphics and Visualization APPENDIX - Projects from leading practitioners in the field, explained in detailIn The Functional Art, instructor Alberto Cairo explains how information graphics and visualizations are cognitive tools that extend our perception and how we can use them to see beyond lists of numbers, variables, and phenomena to identify patterns and trends that would be invisible otherwise. The book also includes a DVD-ROM containing 90+ minutes of video tutorials that expand on the concepts explained in the book as well as exercises that viewers can use to put their newly found skills to the test."Read It. There is really nothing else to say. If you care about how visualization is used to communicate to people, this is the book for you. If you're a journalist, you need to read it. If you're an academic doing visualization research, you really, really need to read it. This is the stuff we've been missing in visualization for the last 25 years. Don't trust my opinion? Nick Diakopoulos thinks it will be the standard text for visual journalists going forward , and even Stephen Few likes it. " - Robert Kosara, EagerEyes

Spinning mirror systems are used to build interactive 3D graphics and autostereoscopic to multiple simultaneous viewers around the screen, since we can generate a different view to each viewer depending on the angle of vision that takes over the screen. Because these mirrors are mobile and gyratory we can create perspective different in 360 degrees around it, therefore they will be used in systems that seek to create images omnidireccionals. In addition, they adjust to possible systems multivision, therefore they will produce a correct interpretation of the field of light though the potential spectator places to more or less distance or to more or less height.

Black & White Graphics

Both inspirational and practical, Black and White Graphics showcases the appealing impact of using monochrome color schemes in the field of graphic design, and it presents an international collection of work that makes clear the capabilities of black, white, and gray. The posters, publications, labels, corporate communications, and other projects selected show that this achromatic combination can, at the same time as keeping a project’s budget to a minimum, elevate the value of graphic design, facilitate communication, and enhance the project’s dramatic effect by limiting design elements to those which are absolutely necessary. For black is not simply black, and white is not only white. There are endless possibilities that lie between the two, within the infinite palette of grays. In fact, black and white make for a timeless combination of colors that has been a popular choice for graphic designers for years. Simple, vintage, and sometimes elegant, black and white are the colors that capture viewers’ attention by simply reducing colors to the basics and therefore leading the focus back to the visual message that a graphic design tries to express. Projects by: Pentagram, Alex Dalmau, Wade Jeffree, DEA Studio, OUWN, Shotopop, Sonu Jung, Para todo hay fans, Ruiz+Company, Hill Holliday, among many others.
